  1. Misunderstanding? History would say otherwise. Perhaps you are mistaking your faith for institution of "religion"

  2. Sceince: Answering questions, then questioning the answers.

  5. To not question is mental slavery.

  6. philosophy is love of wisdom and religion is being tied to a concept.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It should be Philosophy vs Dogmatism. You have to have an irrational faith in your own actions in order to do anything, which is somewhat religious. Beliefs in absolute truth is the enemy, not religion.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The dogma of religion being a synonym for dogmatism seems to be very rarely questioned by some people, who also ironically mistake this dogma for rational philosophy.

  9. Corina Marinescu simple and powerful.

  10. Meh why does it have to be anything vs anything else?  Religion is an idea.  Philosophy is a methodology.  In that case I see then as not in conflict at all, as they do different jobs.  Of course we know this or the philosophy of religion would be meaningless.

Religion is just an idea, now of course we can talk about the merits of it vs the merits of the idea the big crunch.  They are both just ideas.

  11. Lee Douglas I don't see why this is one vs the other. It is a play of words.

    ReplyDelete
  12. João Ferreira Taking into account the posts, and kinds of posts this has already generated, and given the 'wordplay' in the poster is it not obvious that this is designed to show some form of superiority of one above the other?  Or in less words, one vs the other?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lee Douglas Probably. But many religious consider that superiority means amount of faith in face of doubt. So, in this case those that have doubts are inferior. It is relative notion here.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I really dislike generalist claptrap, and with the last three posts we can see that in both philosophy and religion that there are many POV, so I must declare this poster a fail.

    ReplyDelete
  15. João Ferreira Hahh yes but then all belief is a question of relativity is it not?

    ReplyDelete
  16. War is more sacred than religion.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jawad Aitmachirine That's an interesting point. However I wonder whether this interpretation is wide-spread at least in certain schools of islam.

Also, what about the following assertion "Muhammad is his messenger"? Also that Muhammad actually is the last of the prophets? I never had the impression that in islam you're encouraged to question this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. James Hamilton Heh of course it has been with us far longer!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lee Douglas yep. But the relativism was on your inferiority vs superiority interpretation.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jawad Aitmachirine do you question the existence of Allah?
Isn't the opposite true: Islam is a step to atheism?

    ReplyDelete
  21. João Ferreira Heh yes maybe so.  However are you claiming that you can not or do not see the same?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thames Sinclair Thank you
Of course there's a lot of interpretations of each religion text.. The prophecy of Muhammad is legitimate of all Muslims. . In islam we believe that jesus and many other prophets are real.. a thousands who've been persecuted
And muslims and arabs are not islam..
Muhammad is also an historical character no doubt about that
He was a leader, an economic and war strategist
U can deny maybe that his doctrine is not from Allah but Mohammed had existed.. And u can find it in the books of history

    ReplyDelete
  23. David Braun No, not you sir.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lee Douglas I am biased to have one view as superiority and another as inferiority yes. But the opposite view is also possible if you are a true believer.
Now that you mention it, it could be that if you are only a half believer then you will probably get insulted.

    ReplyDelete
  25. João Ferreira Well that really wasn't what I was asking but  meh, you have answered and I thank you.  I'm not really concerned with whether one is superior from the other, as I say, I don't really see one idea and one method for dealing with ideas as being at odds, rather they are connected.

  26. Paul Howard Heh anyholy book that declares you shall know the truth, coz this book tells you it's true is at least guilty of circular reasoning, isn't it?

However I do like number 5, although not so much it's shutting out other avenues.

  27. Good post... Laymen terms....

    ReplyDelete
  28. yea' laymans' terms because there is quite a bit more to philosophy but im sure we can let it go, good post chap

  29. Lee Douglas It would be illogical for the prime authority to refer to any imperfect method for validation. The previous section in Tattva Sandarbha explains that the human facilties for independent research about reality are unreliable due to having imperfect senses, being covered by illusion, having a cheating mentality, and being prone to mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  30. not necessarily, this is propaganda

    ReplyDelete
  31. Paul Howard Heh you may claim that, but if you can then I can claim that it would be illogical for the prime authority to populate the globe with such a disperate peoples and only offer 'one true way'. Can I not?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lee Douglas Is it very strange to you that there would be countless wrong ways but one right way? How is that illogical? Maybe you have an idea like pounding in a lightbulb or attaching it with glue, but if you want the light to work, it must be installed according to the instructions.

Similarly God can be understood as He describes Himself, not by one's own speculative ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  33. frankly there is countless wrong ways and right ways because we all have different views and always will and therefore measure differently want provides the "correct" result and what provides the "correct" method to get such a result

    ReplyDelete
  34. True although, I'm right and you're wrong....see, its easy!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Emaun Brown We shall have to agree to disagree then?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Paul Howard no sir you misunderstand. Let us go back a little and address two points.

Why is it ilogical for the prime authority to refer to any imperfect methoed for validation? If you can show me, then I may belive you, if not should I just take you at your word?

If the latter then I to can make any amount of claims also.

As to my claim. I want to go home, there are three ways I can go home, which one is the one true way? Well none of them, all are valid and each offers thier own pros and cons. What then is ilogical about that?

you show blindness to give all the credit to religion.....science, humans also play a role in genocides, communism, ill be happy to furnish proof that their was atheist philosophers who admitted to the son of god

  38. We are just part of evolution no different than any other living thing on this great earth of ours. So how about using our friggin brains and stop acting like idiots?!? Want to belive in imaginary friends, gods and buffons ? go ahead...no one stops u. We need to coexist on this planet even we belive in gods or not.
The belief in evolution is optional but participation is not....we are still evolving.

IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAME FROM A MONKEY AND BELIEVE YOU ARE AN ACCIDENT BUT  COME IN OPPRESSING THE RELIGIOUS AND THEN PULL OUT WITH THE WHOLE "LETS SET OUR DIFFERENCE ASIDE" YOU ARE SADLY MISGUIDED AND FAR FROM ENLIGHTENED

    ReplyDelete
  40. I BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION FROM WITHIN THE MIND, AND THE NEXT STEP IS PEACE AND HARMONY, UNTIL THEN WE WILL REMAIN PRIMITIVE KILLING EACH OTHER, AND THAT IS ONE THING THE BIBLE OFFERS, TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER, SELFISHNESS, JESUS'S PHILOSOPHY BEATS ALL YOUR PHILOSOPHERS TEN TIMES OVER...BUT THAT IN YOUR ATHEIST PIPE AND SMOKE IT
