On the first page of the first harry potter book, dumbledore pulled out a flashdark, that turned off the streetlights by absorbing all their light. I thought that was the coolest idea ever, and still do.
I've been experimenting with making ultra-black surfaces, actually, but that's not going to do much for shutting off lights at their source. For that, I think a bb gun may be the right tool.
