The Robot That Makes Virtual Sex Feel Real
In the future, some people will choose to spend Valentine's Day alone, having virtual sex with a 3D avatar with the help of a fully responsive robotic assistant.
Tenga is a Japanese manufacturer of disposable male sex toys, they're also promoting a jerry-rigged amalgam of software and robotics that's easily the closest you can come to having physical sex with a video game.
At a tech conference last fall, Tenga unveiled a crude contraption that allowed volunteers to participate in a simulation wherein they received sexual favors from an anime character through virtual reality goggles. Since then, they've updated the software and the graphics of the simulator, and are continuing to promote robot-assisted virtual sex.

Your posts never cease to amaze me Corina Marinescu. Thank you for your continued efforts.
ReplyDeleteZane Newton danke!
ReplyDeleteBTW nice pic =)
The Japanese sure invent some strange things
ReplyDeleteI can think of a few people who would just never leaving their houses. It would be even worse if holodecks were real as well.
ReplyDeleteAs fascinating as the new computer developments in creating virtual reality are, the truth is that we already live in a variety of internally generated virtual realities, whether we label ourselves "clients," "therapists," or whatever.
ReplyDeleteThe structure of our nervous system as programed by our personal psychology constitutes our "stereo headphones" and "eye phones" "touchphones", "tastephones" and "smellphones". We sit, as it were, in a movie theatre of our own, lost in the show created by the usually hidden mechanisms of the
world simulation process.
So, a sex robot is similar to a flight simulator to me; would you say pilots who spend a lot of time training on this simulators are having physical and mental abilities altered? Eszter Mariczáné Nagy
Would be difficult to trust a pilot if you want to go to the Bahamas and sit on the beach drinking pina coladas ;)
Virtual realities are just an escape from the real world. Sure, we need this from time to time, but reality has to be faced. There are many things to see and experience and new people to meet. It is easier to stay in, but you don't live a life if you do and will miss out.
ReplyDeleteSmellphones or smellovision could be both a good thing and a bad thing, depends on the subject matter. I wonder if smells and tastes could be simulated by directly interfacing with the brain? You could make bland things seem pleasant
Virtual realities are not just an escape from the real world Sam Collett . They give you the option to choose.....for example the pilot that spends hundreds of hours in the simulator...of course is gonna step out and just fly planes all over the world. Was the virtual training useful in this case?
ReplyDeleteThis sex robot...could be useful for a shy man, could build his confidence...also would be good for a man with sexuall dissfunction problems.
Virtual realities like everything else in this life have good parts and bad parts....moderation is the key ;)
I suppose it depends on the purpose of the virtual reality, if it is for training or confidence building, then it is beneficial. If you don't spend your life in that virtual world, but take advantage of what you have learnt and apply it in real life situations. Moderation in everything you do (and things you eat as well) is very important
ReplyDeletePerhaps they do a female version too, can't be biased ;)
ReplyDeleteDoes it smoke after ?
ReplyDeleteIt only smokes if you use the groped reality Jean DAVID ;))
ReplyDelete.. or overuse
ReplyDeleteCorina Marinescu ... or if something's burning ;-)
ReplyDeleteHuman sexuality!!! Evolving?
ReplyDeleteIt is the level of trust and creativity that makes me feel excited. The physical stimulation is secondary.
ReplyDeleteThe robot is as much a virtual reality, as the social media are for example. It's a way of experiencing some things in a particular way.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't agree with the "it's good" or "it's bad, because you should do it the other way" opinions here. It's a progress in a particular direction. As also mentioned above the only reason reality is what we see it as, is because of the small computers in our heads generating this particular look and feel of our 'reality'.
And there's the social factor of "everyone else is doing it like 'this' so 'this' is the right way to do it. Everything that's different is bad ".
Valentines day being also one of those social pressures, that tell us 'everyone else is dating, or kissing or having sex, so I should too. Otherwise I'll feel like an outsider, missing out on life, and it feels bad'.
So, basically, a robot, or not a robot, it's an interesting option , or gadget, or maybe even choice for some. As long as those who chose to use it feel good, I wouldn't care about whatever the crowd thinks about it.
No one cares about social factor you keep mention every time Kuba Rychlik , at least I don't...I have my own brain to stretch, also who gives a crap about V'day?!?
ReplyDeleteAnyhow my point will not change...virtual reality is useful in many areas...including sex area. Also sex is not all the time and not for everyone interpersonal Eszter Mariczáné Nagy (see for example men in Afghanistan they have sex with donkeys for pleasure and they sleep with their wives only to make children).
Also flying airplanes, helicopters ..etc could be as orgasmic as the sex for some.
The brain is the most important organ and needs working out
ReplyDeleteCorina Marinescu
ReplyDeleteI might be mentioning social factors, you might be mentioning how little you care about other people's opinions.
But as long as there are discussions going on around, I don't mind sharing my outlook on some matters, just like I don't mind reading other people's views.
Absolutely Kuba Rychlik feel free to share your opinion..
ReplyDeleteGives another meaning to 'love to play on my computer'...
ReplyDeleteI have a Nao...wish were better softwares for this robot.
ReplyDeleteDo you have an Aibo as well? What can it do?
ReplyDeleteNo..just Nao, and is Matt's robot. He is still searching for applications and such.
ReplyDeleteBut Nao can dance, play soccer, has some passion for Star Wars, says jokes and he will tell you when he needs to pee ;)
The way the human brain perceives reality resembles virtual reality. Each of us lives immersed in their own virtual world, which is the hypothesis of our brain, on an objective reality that surrounds us. However, we can not have direct access to objective reality. Is it "natural" or "artificial" is slowly becoming a technical issue…
ReplyDeleteHow does a robot pee? Not hydro powered is he? ;)
ReplyDeleteKuba Rychlik Reality is relative, remember that. That means that every experience that you've ever had in life is solely yours, and unique to you. Somebody else who has gone through the same exact experiences as you (e.g. a car wreck, a scary movie, a birthday celebration, a first kiss, the smell of the ocean, etc.) will typically come away with their own unique impression of that event. The phrase "All men are created equal" is an excellent example of the type of fallacies we all typically tend to choose to subscribe to. This device shows promise for many aspects beyond stimulation. Donating sperm just got a lot easier, for example, and hopefully those Afghan men will start letting their donkeys lead normal donkey lives, frolicking about as they may.
ReplyDeleteSex is great exercise for mind and body. It can be a heavy cardio workout; it can feel like doing yoga in terms of stretching the body; and it can turbocharge the flow of energy in the body and fire the imagination.
ReplyDeleteIf used as a training device, sex could be better than going to the gym, in terms of full body health.
But sex between human lovers is not primarily about exercise; rather, it is (should be) more about self affirmation, perhaps the most poignant means of claiming, "I am alive" and demonstrating that one is worthy to be alive, as reflected in the intimate association with another human being.
On the other hand, sex with a properly designed robot could be used as an adjunct for training and exercise. I can see value in that. In my experience, a rousing romp is the best exercise to be had.
For those who prefer to be independent, or those who have yet to find a sexually compatible lover, I think it would be a boon.
Personally, I would not be interested in anything less than a Tantric Geisha version of Seven of Nine. For training purposes.
This is amazing. Soon you will have willing participants each with their own version of the machine. Each machine will stimulate and simulate the participants based on their own devices. I would venture to say that in the near future there will be more sex going on using these devices than in so called "realty". And as you alluded to, what is reality? We create it through our thoughts, so you decide what is "real".
ReplyDeleteThinking further, sex machines loving and stimulating each other was predicted many years ago by polish writer Stanisław Lem … ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo that's how little baby robots are made...
