It's #SunDay!

It's #SunDay!
This satellite view shows a prominence (a relatively cool cloud of solar material suspended above the Sun's surface by magnetic fields) arching up and sending solar material curling back into the Sun.

Prominences are cooler strands of plasma tethered above the sun's surface by magnetic forces. They are quite unstable and frequently fall apart within hours or days.

  1. Your super sun pictures always remind me of looking into the crucible of boiling melted aluminum ,1150*F ,at my dads old aluminum casting foundry, or the bronze at 2500*F. The bubbling , ever-changing crusty top as the metal came to liquid temperatures. Amazing ! Eino Wikman from Finland, master moulder showed me what to look for , to the naked eye , a mini sun...
