Germany is leading the world in sustainable energy. They are currently working toward the goal of having 35% of their energy from renewable resources by 2020, and is expected to be at 100% by 2050.
An estimated 66% of Peruvians do not have electricity in their homes. To remedy this, their government recently began a campaign to provide 2 million of its poorest citizens with solar panels at no charge to them. The total cost is just about $200 million. When all is said and done, the final cost of the wars is expected to be over $2.2 trillion. For that amount, all Americans could enjoy sustainable energy.

The US and Germany have taken very different routes in pursuit of energy security. I think I prefer the cost/benefit of Germany's path.
