This is the underside of the giant Amazon water lily. The leaves can grow to be 2.6 m (8.5 ft) across. The underside is covered in spines that protect it from animals living in the Amazon River. The branching veins are filled with air and make the leaf buoyant enough to support the weight of an adult human!
