The sphere of water is ~1400km in diameter. The ISS orbits at ~400km.
The density of the air-sphere is 1atm (at sea level).
I'd say this is kinda disturbing!

Images that support data are very important as you know very well, not everyone is an astronomer or knows how to interpret all the statistics.
ReplyDeleteA picture is worth a thousands words, and it kinda does when you look at this.
I'm glad USGS/NASA made time for this...and heck yeah I love the pearlized effect!
Plus, NASA is a government agency for the better of society, so part of their charter is outreach to the public regarding scientific information. And that's the whole public, including children whom they are hoping to snare their imagination and lead them onto the road of scientific participation (as well as adults that were never exposed to cosmology in a way that they could understand/get interested in).
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for adding me, Corina Marinescu !
Agreed Scott Myers ..and avec plaisir! =)
ReplyDeleteI still think it is lacking on their part.
