TAVI: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
This medical animation illustrates the minimally-invasive treatment called transcatheter aortic valve implantation; also known as TAVI or TAVR.
TAVI is the procedure to replace a diseased aortic valve without open-heart surgery or surgical removal of the native valve. The implantation procedure involves accessing the femoral artery, performing balloon valvuloplasty, and then advancing the device across the native valve.
Tavi is also a treatment alternative for inoperable elderly patients and high risk patients with failing bioprostheses.
