“They come!”
ReplyDelete“No, fear not – those are sounds
Of spring itself.
She’s coming soon.
Quickly, your lips!”
“They break the door!”
“No, river ice is breaking…”
Wild grasses rustle over Babi Yar,
The trees look sternly, as if passing judgement.
Here, silently, all screams, and, hat in hand,
I feel my hair changing shade to gray.
And I myself, like one long soundless scream
Above the thousands of thousands interred,
I’m every old man executed here,
As I am every child murdered here.

ReplyDeleteI first read Babi Yar in the Holocaust museum in DC.. I stood silent, stunned, and feeling the pain from so many, from so many years ago I wept.
If we can't handle it, I don't know, who can...
ReplyDeleteSo, you are also getting the 'Hungarian Wall' .. they are going to shoot on children?
ReplyDeleteI don't see it getting better any time soon

ReplyDeleteSadly Sam, I concur, and I fear that we have much to go through before this turns around.
