Who is Pepper?
The latest creation from Aldebaran, Pepper is the first humanoid robot designed to live with humans. At the risk of disappointing you, he doesn't clean, doesn't cook and doesn't have super powers... Pepper is a social robot able to converse with you, recognize and react to your emotions, move and live autonomously.
Engaging and friendly, Pepper is much more than a robot, he’s a companion able to communicate with you through the most intuitive interface we know: voice, touch and emotions.
At the Clinton Global Initiative on Monday, Pepper joined Tyson on stage at “The Future of Global Impact” conference, to tell attendees a bit about itself and share a tender embrace with the renowned astrophysicist.

Seems odd and creepy but this is the future. I'm waiting for the Ninja/MMA Robot you can stay in shape and spar with while you try to kick its butt. Lolz
ReplyDeleteWe're one step closer to an army of lucy luu robots!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine this being popular with the salaryman of Japan, coming home to an otherwise empty house.
ReplyDeleteSince there is Pepper, there surely will be Salt too? The spicy cousin Paprika too. A robot for all seasons..
I only watched iRobot the other night - let me get a coffee and read the full article.
ReplyDeleteEarly prototype of sex doll NG, if you want my opinion.
ReplyDeletesooo cooool!
ReplyDeleteUncanny Valley alert!
ReplyDeleteLove it
ReplyDeletei'm surprised by tyson. look at him grabbing the small of that back at the end of the hug.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey Kane interesting, but I noticed the robot's arm moves closer to his face after it rests on his shoulder, which can only mean, it was programmed for those little human suttlties.
ReplyDeleteSam Loera I imagine so. The head turn is also nice. However, i find the reciprocating action more intriguing because it means that the action felt natural (and got a natural response from tyson, the sly animal!) To be honest though, the makers sure gave this 'bot an apple bottom. Perhaps it was an attempt to illicit an instinctual response? Tyson even looked it in the face afterwards, probably got her number, found her on facebook etc.
ReplyDeletei could go on, but i think that's enough
Jeffrey Kane I think you are correct on all accounts. Hehe
ReplyDeleteBoris Borcic Didn't the company put in the contract that it was not to be used for sex acts or it would not be sold to the customer?
ReplyDeleteCaptain Jack prototype looks like it concentrates on features absent from state-of-the-art sex dolls while not including the basics necessary to actual sex, anyway.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Jack I'm sure once you've had the robot in your possession, you could abuse the robot in any manner you chose fit?
ReplyDeleteSam Loera In its user agreement, SoftBank states: “The policy owner must not perform any sexual act” on the robot or engage in “other indecent behaviour”.

So how would they know? They didn't say. I do know from repairing electronics over the years the manufactures would hide little markers to indicate tampering and would void the warranty. This was done back in the early 1980s and continues to this day.
Softbank could have its coders program the robot to shut down if it was made to perform a sex act. Or at least log it so when it goes back for maintenance they can read the logs and void the warranty. Or the robot could call home. Like many software programs we have today, they are always calling home to get more data, check for updates, check to see if they have been pirated, and so on.
The days of having full complete ownership are diminishing. You don't own your credit cards. They are on loan. Just read the back of any card. You don't own the land. Its own by the government. You don't own insurance. You don't own TV programs. So we don't have as much control over what we think we own.
There are going to be some new laws that will have to be put in place as new robots come into the community. I program my robot to shoot anything on two legs for example. Birds, kangaroos, penguins, apes, and humans. Who is to blame? It really opens up a new pandora's box and we are going have to deal with it.
Boris Borcic my friend, you underestimate the sex drive and creativity of humans. If the probability exist, you can be sure someone will try it. Just visit youtube and search for crazy things people do to get a good idea what humans will attempt.
ReplyDelete"I don't fear AI, I fear the people who can influence AI."
Captain Jack I am not underestimating the sex drives, I am saying that at the stage shown the machine isn't yet intended for satisfying them, and shows only an innovative technology that needs to be integrated with others, some well-explored in quality sex dolls, to have an idea of where demand should - due to a prevalence of sex drives - lead that technology
