RoboKitty

RoboKitty
Hasbro recently announced a line of robotic pets for seniors. Part of the company’s new Joy For All line of products, the robotic pets have motion and light sensors designed to allow for realistic responses to being stroked or held.

  1. Me too, but is an option for those who can't take care of a real kitty.

  3. Excellent.....I was just considering using AI Pets as an element in one or more of my stories. :)

  4. Gotta say the ones in that youtube are pretty damn lame though. LOL!

  5. They're like toys...
I want to see a very smart robocat with an evil attitude that would be awesome.

  6. but this one will not jump on the window and drop off all the vases, will not get mad for no reason and doesn't think she is a princess of the world...this is what I'd miss

  8. The kitties are planning to take over the world. Don't let the purring lull you into their feline trap

  9. Can it talk in an interesting manner and pay you attention when you're still for too long?

  10. They should have heartmonitors that can read Senior even at a distance.

  11. Well obviously real pets are superior. Why not let in pets where staff can clean up after them. Not at home where you can't walk it or be bothered to change it's litter tray.

  12. The toy doesn't bother me, but the whole idea that giving toy stuffed animatronic cats to old people is going to fulfill our need for love, that just bugs me. I have a cute little dog and he could not be replaced by a robot version of him.  Not without a very good AI unit onboard!
There are those robo dog pets Japan was making.  They apparently become as important as living pets to their owners.

  13. ann kiszt Yep, I too find the concept a bit weird and perhaps demeaning to the geriatric set of which I'm quickly approaching. :)

  14. Cricket Booth you forgot:
     demeaning-yes. :)

  15. Cricket Booth Yeah, those of us who are elderly think it's quite egotistical of others to claim they know what we want or need.

  16. Well I guess at least you can take the Robot to the grave with you, or make it an Everlasting gift.

  17. Surely you could hook up a Robot live to Google and I hear we have A.I now?

  18. Tabitha Goode Yep, they've built that sort of thing in to the latest Barbie dolls that talk and respond to speech.

  19. But will it claw the fuck out of my hand if I rub it's belly?

  20. Shrewd Simian LOL! That's exactly what one of my cats does! LOL!

  21. Kenny Chaffin oh I thought I saw on tv that they were hooked up to telephonists in a central office in USA somewhere? Actual folk talking to the dolls through headsets?

  22. Cricket Booth  There are nursing homes with resident pets, both caged and free range, cats, dogs, birds, rodents, etc.  If the home makes a commitment to keep the pet, then the seniors get to have a pet around. That would not be more expensive than buying a gross of plastic toys with noisy servos that break down constantly (you know these will get broken.)

  23. Also, for the record, I have an animatronic rabbit, parrot, and cosplay tail.  I also own a flock of furbies with furblings. I know my toys and these things are hard plastic and the mechanisms are noisy.  You'd be better off getting a doll from Build-a-Bear with a little heart beat and voice capsule (I have one of these too) because they are customizable, huggable, and warm. Mine is aging to get a soul, she's a bit empty yet. If you leave inanimate things in place long enough they absorb enough animus to have a presence :-)

  24. (aka, you start imbuing them with it without having to think about it.)

  27. Cricket Booth The way you describe is last century.  Things are changing, they just don't change fast enough or far enough to please us. If I ever find myself in a ward like that, I pray there's a pet around to befriend me.
