SeaBin
Two Australian surfers have quit their jobs and come up with a brilliant solution to combat the millions of tons of trash in our oceans.
They came up with an automated rubbish bin for marina docks called the Seabin that many hope could help reduce ocean pollution.
Built from recycled materials, the Seabin is fixed to a dock with water pump running on shore power.
The pump creates a flow of water that sucks all floating rubbish and debris into a natural fiber bag, before pumping the water back out.
It catches everything floating from plastic bottles to paper, oils, fuel and detergent.

Thats a cool idea , they should try to be used offshore as well to reduce plastic in our oceans , great post !
ReplyDeleteCool idea, but strange gif to watch for an extended time. An artificial glutton, eating floating trash continuously.
ReplyDeleteBoris Borcic I agree lol
ReplyDeleteIt's a great place to start but I question if it will work in the Great Pacific Gyre where the trash is deeply mixed with ocean life that needs to be sorted out. I keep imagining a filter ship that uses light on a tank floor to attract sea creatures down away from the floating trash so the trash can be remove and the baby animals released again. I don't have the money.
ReplyDeleteThe Ballard Locks desperately needs this...
