Not wise to deny something so critical to humanity. I've always been puzzled by this line of reasoning -- one without proof or lack of evidence thereof. A reasoning that seems to exude a narrow minded, politically fueled mentality (most climate deniers are conservative). Typical climate denier: My kid may "seem" sick to you all ignoramuses, but ya know, he's never been sick before; he'll be okay.
A man once told me even if it wasn't real, It cant be a good idea to dump billions of tons of pollutants into the atmosphere. And do do so thinking it causes no harm, is pure ignorance. (BTW I know it's real)
Antenna Wilde I doubt DiCaprio has a clue of what is going on past the hype! Most of what actors and politicians say has little to do with science and its methods, and it is very dangerous for people to get what to believe in from them. The fact sometimes they are on the right side seems to be purely coincidental.
Antenna Wilde sorry, but I have to disagree - yes, great examples, all great peer reviewed scientists! Let's all drop out of school and become billionaires, education it is clearly overrated!
DiCaprio - a Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist. No mate, unfortunately that's Iron man. According to your line of reasoning, DiCaprio is a master seismologist (In 2010, he donated $1 million to relief efforts in Haiti after the earthquake) and a zoology expert (in November 2010 DiCaprio donated $1 million to the Wildlife Conservation Society at Russia's tiger summit).
Give me a break. What he is a real expert on is marketing and politics (and probably he has people for that).
Antenna Wilde re-read my original post. I have (actually - had) absolutely nothing against DiCaprio or the causes he is fighting for.
I was simply pointing out that a society where we don't listen to scientist but we give credibility to actors is a rather sad one.
But now I want to point out that, even more worryingly, there are people that not only don't even get close to understanding the difference but are willing to waste their own time and mine to defend what's noting more than an overinflated and overpaid party clown 😄.
Yep... well done!!!

ReplyDeleteI cannot take you seriously with this new emoticon of yours :)
Yes. It's working!! ☺
ReplyDeleteI found really worrying that people listen more to an actor than to a scientist

ReplyDeleteHe's actually quite passionate about climate change and the environment and has personally raised a lot of money for change.
ReplyDeleteAntenna Wilde I think it just means he donated money to set a charity. According to Wikipedia he dropped out of high school.

If you want the truth, is not a great environmentalist either. Apparently he currently has 3 cars (electric and hybrid) - do you know that the carbon footprint of manufacturing a car is greater than the carbon footprint of driving it? http://yosemite.epa.gov/r10/owcm.nsf/Product+Stewardship/autos-impacts. Also, have fun with the solar panels he installed in his house http://spectrum.ieee.org/green-tech/solar/solar-energy-isnt-always-as-green-as-you-think . Popular, but uninformed, choices.
People like him just talk out of their arses, by hearsay and just because "it is one of the current hot (pun) topic" and, sadly, with an agenda.
