The brain does much more than recollect. It compares, synthesizes, analyzes, generates abstractions. We must figure out much more than our genes can know. That is why the brain library is some ten thousand times larger than the gene library. Our passion for learning, evident in the behavior of every toddler, is the tool for our survival. Emotions and ritualized behavior patterns are built deeply into us. They are part of our humanity. But they are not characteristically human. Many other animals have feelings. What distinguishes our species is thought. The cerebral cortex is a liberation. We need no longer be trapped in the genetically inherited behavior patterns of lizards and baboons. We are, each of us, largely responsible for what gets put into our brains, for what, as adults, we wind up caring for and knowing about. No longer at the mercy of the reptile brain, we can change ourselves.

I want... I want a high resolution sensory pixel matrix plate inserted and integrated with my corpus callosum to enable our thoughts to flow across the brains of each others just as naturally as they flow between our left and right brain hemispheres...
ReplyDeleteWe can do it, don't you think? Corpus callosum has 0.25 bn axonal projections... right now we have transistor density of 25 mln / mm^2 in modern processors, which corresponds to 0.0002 mm in side linear size. So, if the cross-section of corpus callosum is >=10 mm^2, we are at the size that we need, right? But how could we cut these axons without destroying the neurons?
Btw., Corina Marinescu why do you think specifically of connecting through the left lobe? What would connecting via corpus callosae miss out?
Ummm...sounds legit Mindey I.
ReplyDeleteBut since CC connects the right and left hemispheres of the brain and allows communication between the two...I'd still go with my external left lobe. Just a personal preference, sounds less invasive and a lot easier ;)
Corina Marinescu I would like to experience the left-lobe connection too... :) But, I had wanted to merge with some people in terms of identity, and therefore I thought that if I feel my left and right hemispheres so connected that they feel like a single person, maybe I would succeed if I applied the same principles by which they are connected to connect several brains.
