  1. Since you are a runner, and likely someone capable to imagine tests of performance for your own working memory, maybe you could do a little experimentation and relay what you find or don't, Corina Marinescu ?

And please don't think that my main motivation here is less science than a fantasy of influence over yourself removing shoes;)

  2. As someone who has run barefoot I can imagine that the focused attention involved in not stepping on things that might hurt you could improve working memory. Barefoot running is also a more tactile and simulating experience than running in shoes, and that might also have an effect.

If those are the factors involved, then wearing minimalist running shoes (which a lot of people also refer to as barefoot running), would diminish the benefits.

  3. Compromise with Vibram shoes? At least some protection when using those. Otherwise running on a beach could be painful

  4. Sam Collett I love my Five Fingers. You do still have to be careful about landing on stones, since the soles are thin and hard, but it's much easier than running in bare feet. Having said that, true barefoot running was rarely painful, even on tarmac. The main reason I switched to VFF is because roads get so damn cold.
