Robot Hand As Good As the Real Thing: Next Step Human Skin and Tendons

Robot Hand As Good As the Real Thing: Next Step Human Skin and Tendons
Researchers created a robot hand that is so accurate it has almost the same dexterity as a human hand.
That alone is enough to improve the motion capabilities in prosthetics in a way that has never been seen before. But the researchers plan on taking the project even farther by growing human tendon and tissue on the robot hand.

That would mean people could have an entirely new hand, human skin and all, if their hand were to be lost in an accident.

  1. And to think not too long ago, the speed of a robot hand was pretty slow. I can't wait to see someone have a disguised robot arm!

  2. I'd like to see a robo-hand write a letter, a story, a poem or even draw a picture. Maybe even mimic someones handwriting - at one end a person with a stylus, writing/drawing, at the other, the robo-hand repeats the actions, real-time (or close to, given network latency). Useful as a teaching aid, or other aid - limited only by your imagination (virtually holding hands for instance)

  3. The quality of the movement is a little uncanny valley. It will be interesting to see if the finished product makes it across.
