Human fetal brain at 20 weeks. Human fetal brain at 20 weeks gestation! This brain is from fetus that died in utero of Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation of the lung.
CCAM is associated with the development of hydrops fetalis. Hydrops arise from compression of the inferior vena cava, which compromises venous return and leads to a decrease in cardiac output and the development of effusions.
I'd have thought that in utero the lung wouldn't play such a vital role that a malformation of it would reveal fatal.
