I see shades of dark grey... :-) Black is more a concept than a colour. If you want to paint a black dog, you'll need a lot of white. My highschool art teacher told me to always make black from the mixed colours instead of the flat lamp-black blacks offered by the paint companies, because it's a deeper black. Of course, sometimes you want a flat colour in the picture.
