SpaceX Falcon rocket explodes on landing after delivering satellite to space
The cause of the problem was that one of the rocket's legs collapsed as it tried to land on a floating ocean barge.

ReplyDeleteIt's still a pretty remarkable achievement to get that far.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine Elon must have been pulling his hair out...
ReplyDeleteIn my eyes its a perfect landing. The fact it fell over was down to a mechanical failure of one leg.
ReplyDeleteThe trial and error method of development has never been so publicly visible, especially when it's been this expensive. I think that may be a bigger innovation than the rocket science itself! So many people who never create like to think creations spring fully engineered from the "genius" mind. But they don't. They are an amalgamation of all the previous trial and error experience and need their own trial by fire to grow and evolve into the amazing stuff we all love so much!
ReplyDeleteI love watching them learn to land a rocket precisely on target, a moving target, and far enough away from everyone's property to be safe from disaster. Sure they could lose less of the "waste" bit they're landing if they landed on ground, but how hard would it be to ensure they never set fire to a forest or farm or hit a town or infrastructure facility?
It must be soul crushing to fail at the last split second... but I would say well done....
ReplyDeleteEvery attempt to land one of these has been a clear and demonstrable improvement over the last one. This was a great success considering the difficulty of what they are attempting to do.
ReplyDeleteIt delivered the payload. This is sort of like the pyrotechnic finally at a rock concert.
ReplyDeleteer, finale
