Before going on a boat trip, remember ...
Motion sickness, also known as kinetosis and travel sickness, is a condition in which a disagreement exists between visually perceived movement and the vestibular system's sense of movement.
Therefore take a couple of dramamines and you won't end up like me...sick and grumpy ;)
#personalnonsense #kinetosis
I hate boat/ship voyages for exactly this reason.
ReplyDeleteYes, seasickness/motion sickness is horrible. I can go on one fairground ride with my kids and then I have nausea for the rest of the day. After a ferry crossing during a heavy swell I couldn't eat anything but ice cream for two days. (Ice cream settles the tummy, I find, and it also doesn't taste too bad if you throw it up.)
ReplyDeleteWell, helps to eat something salty while bouncing on the waves...at least helps me. And no liquids.
ReplyDeleteIndeed James ;)
ReplyDeleteOne time the appearance of a pod of humpbacks distracted me from my seasickness to the point that it entirely disappeared, Corina Marinescu. That's my recommended cure, although arranging for whales to materialize is the tricky part.
ReplyDeleteNo ferry...just a boat.
ReplyDeleteAh! I've been there. I just had to throw up my breakfast and all was well with me in my last experience.
ReplyDeleteCorina Marinescu My wife said go outside, that helps some people." then when I came back "Why were you gone so freaking long?!"
ReplyDeleteWorst feeling in the world... Dramamine doesn't seem to work on my deranged, motion-baby brain.
ReplyDeleteHope the trip was worth it.
ReplyDeleteSpent a month on a boat, no tablets.. but luckily I don't seem to have the problem, my room mate did though. Was worth it, for the wilderness and polar bears on the sea ice. The arctic foxes are much nicer than the UK ones. Still have to upload all my photos (a few on here, but more on Flickr).
Using a phone in the car (not while driving...) or reading can make me queasy though, though not to the point to cause previous meal propulsion.
I used to not have the problem now I do. I know up to 40 was fine, not sure when it came in.
ReplyDeleteIn flight school, they teach that you can reduce susceptibility to motion sickness by not eating, particularly avoiding fats/greasy food, and if possible keeping your face and forehead cold. I bought an aeromedix electric shock wristband for my highly motion-sick-liable then-gf, and it worked well for her, although partly I think it was just the irritation of the feeling of being shocked constantly that distracted her vestibular system. Still, it works for some people.
ReplyDeleteBon, c'est vrai qu'en y regardant à deux fois l'on peut trouver ce joli visage un peu pale, mais son cas ne serait-il pas plus facile à lire si le teint en était jaune canari à défaut du convenu vert nausée?
