The quantum carrier pigeon that wasn’t there
Counterfactual communication is a puzzling quantum concept in which two parties can exchange information without any photon or other physical messenger passing between them.
Here's how it's done:

Imagine having two connecting vessels: on the left Alice's vessel contains Alice's (H2O) photons on the right Bob's Vase contains Bob's (H2O) photons, both of which are in contact with a tube (interference). Now Alice pours a drop of frozen water (single photon). When Bob blocks the tube, Alice recognizes 0, and 1 despite not having lost or bought a Bob photon. She recognize it because it has undergone a very small variation of energy! Photon is not only physically natural! The photon is simultaneously wave and particle. 2 interacting photons are like two violin strings that vibrate are touched, thus giving the same frequency at the end.
ReplyDeleteThis phenomenon could make 'untappable' communication a reality, which could obviate the need for ever more complicated encryption. Quantum computing can be a great boon as well as a risk, since it would also make current encryption techniques obsolete as they could be cracked more easily
