It is interesting how many ummm can be ehhh like that, although more in speeches or presentations than general conversation. It takes a conscious effort to avoid doing it though, I tend to just pause... until I can find the appropriate words. Really good orators can be quite rare, those who can capture your attention and speak fluidly and clearly. I think it partly comes down to practice and a good vocabulary
