  1. Our origins were more 4 hours on four hours off as dictated , or, rather un-evolved to this new 8 hours overnight ( nice and safe ) the last few thousand years.

  2. Maybe more shorter rests would be better, rather than a 6-8 hour sleep, several during the day (3-4), no more than a few hours. Primitive humans would probably have had to live like that because of predators and a nomadic lifestyle, resting when it is safe.
