SynDaver Patient
A company called SynDaver develops synthetic human bodies for medical students to practice surgeries and other procedures on.
The bodies have their own automatic nervous system so that the patient can move its limbs, has a beating heart, dilating pupils, a warm body and a chest that rises and falls as it breathes.
Students can cut into the synthetic human tissues using surgical knives and lasers to see the layers of skin, fat, muscles, tendons and bones .

Wow!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like it would be an impressive teaching tool!
ReplyDeleteA step up from dolls I guess...
ReplyDeleteCorina Marinescu your posts are wonderful. I enjoy them very much.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting in the time to share this stuff.
Well done, ma'am.
Well done.
Avec plaisir! :)
ReplyDeleteThank God you Drs. know what you are doing , and have cadaver/models to continue practice exercises on ..
ReplyDeleteHey, what about using the video tapes from surgery in a feedback loop for training surgeons ? Such as with a DaVinci machine to refine the hand/eye coordination techniques required there for laparoscopic/micro surgery ?
If I'm visualizing this training technique correctly Corina you Drs. may be able to reconnect nerves and tendons with precision you can only dream about right now :-)
Regardless of Laparoscope or DaVinci machine - the goal is always ensuring surgeons have ample experience with any device they plan to use in the OR.

PS> If you do this, never tell a lawyer about it unless they are an MD too - just do it.
Just sayin' Corina Marinescu
ReplyDeleteWhatta coincidence!! I was just reading about SynDaver and their story - including the investment background etc. O.o
ReplyDeleteLacerant Plainer - this is what we were talking about :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting expression... Is it just me, or does anyone else get the impression the dummy really is enjoying its role...
ReplyDeleteThese life-like bodies work well as a type of desensitization aid for surgeons. Just don't piss off Corina! Lolz
ReplyDeleteGita Jaisinghani heh indeed! Wow what a coincidence. I was wondering how accurate the bodies were as far as musculature is concerned.
