Russia Claims North Pole, 1.2 Million Square Kilometers of Arctic
As polar ice continues to recede, the Arctic rush for potentially a quarter of the planet’s undiscovered oil and gas is heating up.
Russia has submitted a bid to the United Nations, again claiming 1.2 million square kilometers of Arctic shelf, including the North Pole, according to an announcement by the nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
