Let's take a moment to say hooray for medical advances, shall we?

Let's take a moment to say hooray for medical advances, shall we?

This photograph shows Polish heart surgeon, Zbigniew Religa, after 23 hours long heart transplantation. The surgery was successful. His assistant is sleeping on the floor (1987).

Today more than 5,000 heart transplants are performed around the world every year, and the surgery takes just 6 hours

  3. And its worth reflecting on that these are the same surgeons/physicians that are currently being over-regulated to the point where they are giving up medicine in droves.

We need regulation yes, but in moderation.

  6. You hear a lot of talk about "heart" in sports...but, I dunno, this is taking it to another level. From both the patient and the surgeon, actually.

  8. we have the worst health care system in the world. That story is priceless and shows how rewarding medicine could be. Here in america , our infestation of cancer of attorneys , lawsuits, and insurance/pharmaceutical lobbies will never let us see the beauty of practicing real medicine.

  11. Andrew Bowlby We cannot comment some officials choices, everyone is free to choose the dr, treatment, hospital..etc
It doesn't mean Canadian surgeons are less prepared than American ones...is just a matter of personal choices.

  12. Andrew Bowlby I'm not saying the surgeons  are better in Canada, I'm just saying that I would not want to get badly hurt in the U.S because I'd have to pay for most of the operation. Sorry if I offended anyone.
