Agree, disagree?

Agree, disagree?

  1. Reading shows you new ways of thinking, and the greatest danger as you get old is not being open to new ideas.

  2. Agree. But whether or not it is right for you depends whether or not you want to create or be entertained and escape. If everyone was creating full time there'd be no one to appreciate it (but that's not a problem if you only create for yourself and the enjoyment of the creative process). But that's an extreme. And the opposite is just as bad and ridiculous. It's all a healthy balance, a flow of what makes you happy and gives you purpose at any given moment. Some moments are for immersion and contemplation. Others for getting things off your chest and yelling at the top of your lungs.

  4. Too much information might restrict our creative thoughts. Therefore He might be right.

  5. The greatest danger is to become a "lifetime dilettante" and never actually get deep into anything enough to be great at what you (love to) do.

I find I read one or two new books per year outside my chosen field(s) these days ... I read a lot of articles online, however, to stay current -- and in my field(s) of expertise I read constantly, just not books -- the internet is so much more current, usually and especially in technical fields where getting a book done and published can take years.

Even more than reading, nowadays I find doing the best way to stay sharp of mind ... Google+ for reading comprehension and writing new ideas helps a lot, writing always helps me more than reading, and discussing stuff with friends (especially in person) is my favorite way of sharpening my mind.

Active mind trumps open mind every time.
