  2. This medical imaging procedure done by a radiologist has been around for many years. It is called a barium swallow study. Barium is used as a contrast since it is opaque to X-Ray. Barium is mixed with the drink you take during the procedure. This is the best way to know if you are aspirating. If your esophagus is working as it should, nothing should go into your lungs. It it isn't, the barium swallow study will show it.

  3. Ugh. I had the esophagus barium test when a pneumedium stinum (terribly misspelled) randomly appeared. They were afraid a hole had opened up in my esophagus and allowed the air which had entered. I have to say the barium stuff is absolutely terrible tasting. The technicians must not have realized it but I had just eat lunch. A bad idea before the test as I lost the lunch as soon as it ended.
