What is the physical meaning of time? is a question that physicists have asked themselves for centuries. George Ellis's answer is the subject of this feature article from the June issue of Discover magazine. "In his framework, set out in a series of highly regarded papers published from 2006 onward, Ellis retains four-dimensional space-time, in line with relativity’s predictions. However, he argues that Einstein took that concept too far. There’s no need to assume that the fourth dimension must already exist out into infinity. Thus Ellis’ model has one crucial difference from Einstein’s: The future boundary does not encompass all that will ever happen."
Thanks for the late night reading! ;)

il reste de la place pour l'imprévu, c'est rassurant, sans doute !
ReplyDeleteEllis is wrong! We have to see time as a guitar string enclosed in a circle, if we pinch a point this variation is reflected in the future but also the past.! This then as well as any point of time is the combination of events each point of time! This is the only difference with the static nature of the time dictated by A.Einstein. This view leads to explain with simplicity the foresight and acausal phenomena observed in physics

Something to watch about time from my favorite sci fi show :-)
thanks Corina
ReplyDeleteI agree with Albert that time is set. Though I so hate this because it brings the notion of destiny is fact and unchanging. Why do I think time is set? I know a person that can accurately predict the future. Now people are going to say I'm nuts. I've studied this person's predictions for many years. While I don't know the mechanism that make this possible, I do know she can see into the future. The entanglement theory might show clues of the mechanism in play here. This would not be possible if the past, present and future wasn't set. I'm still struggling to get my head around this idea of time. Though in time I'll figure it out. (pun intended!)
